Primary Care: Less Rewarding ($$$) or Too Hard?

Do we have a shortage of primary care physicians because they are paid less than other specialists? Or is the shortage because being a primary care physician is tougher? I don’t know. I’m not a physician; I’m not even a very good patient. However, I remember several years ago interviewing Dr. Robert Collins, a pulmonologist who is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care for a CVPH publication. He said that his job is easy compared to the primary care physician. According to Dr. Collins, when he sees the patient, the patient has been diagnosed with a pulmonary problem.
